In May 2019, we opened our own Indian fast food restaurant, Moti Cafe, named after our founder's beloved grandmother “Moti,” in River North, Chicago. Our business was growing steadily, but less than a year later, Covid hit, causing sales to slow dramatically. When we reopened Moti’s, we felt the pressure of an uncertain future. With a focus solely on takeout, we started researching food trends that had gained momentum during the pandemic. That’s when we noticed how pizza sales were skyrocketing. It sparked an idea among our team: “Why not Indian Pizza?”
From that moment, we launched “Masala Pizza” as a virtual kitchen, operating out of our brick-and-mortar location. Since then, we’ve proudly served our unique pizzas to countless people across the United States and beyond. Our vision is to keep sharing our culture and flavors through Indian-inspired pizza, reaching every neighborhood, one slice at a time.
Most people don’t dream of a fast food job right out of college, and neither did I, at first. After graduating college with a Finance & IT Degree, I went to work at McDonald’s corporate. This experience opened my eyes to the corporate structure that runs a fast food chain, and I was hooked.
Growing up with a deep love for Indian food, our vision is to continue spreading Indian culture through our unique pizzas to every neighborhood. Growing up in an entrepreneurial family, business was always my path. My background and love for Indian food have fueled this journey from a small fast-food shop to a thriving, modern restaurant. The world has changed, and I’ve adapted, always striving to meet new market needs. We hope you love our pizza!
